Profile

Dr. Jessica Ochs is a professor of nursing at Endicott College and is a board-certified adult and family nurse practitioner who has been devoted to improving the health and welfare of patients through clinical practice, education, program development, and research. She has served in leadership positions in both the academic and clinical settings and is the former director of the family nurse practitioner program at Endicott College where she made positive changes to the curriculum to reflect contemporary family practice. In her role as an advanced practice registered nurse, she has been working with a diverse population of patients in primary care, urgent care, emergency medicine, community health, and surgery. Dr. Ochs was inducted as a Distinguished Scholar Fellow in the National Academies of Practice as a result of her interprofessional research and practice. Dr. Ochs serves as an editorial board member of an international nursing journal, and maintains an active role in the National League for Nursing, the National Academies of Practice, Sigma Theta Tau International, and the American Association of the Colleges of Nursing.

Research

Dr. Ochs’ research interests include social determinants of health and social change, interprofessional collaborative practice and education, and creating inclusive and engaging learning environments. She has presented at numerous international and national conferences on active teaching strategies, fostering inclusivity in nursing education, incorporating the social determinants of health in nursing curricula, and actions to advance interprofessional collaboration. Recent publications include an interprofessional public policy call for action, addressing health disparities by addressing structural racism, and an innovative incorporation of the social determinants of health.

Awards

  • The National League for Nursing (NLN), having formally recognized the year 2022 as the Year of the Nurse Educator, awarded Dr. Ochs the NLN’s Nurse Educator of the Year Award, recognizing nursing education excellence, innovation, and inspiration. In 2023, Dr. Ochs was presented with the Faculty of the Year Award at Endicott College after being nominated by and voted for by the graduating senior class at the College. This award recognized Dr. Ochs’ significant academic impact on her students and her dedication to teaching and learning.
